Weekend Wheels is Rolling Fast
The Windsor Hunger Action Team is a group of concerned citizens who have come together to help fight hunger in our community. One of the HAT programs is the Weekend Wheels backpack program.

Weekend Wheels distributes supplementary food to Windsor elementary school children in need throughout the school year. A high number of Windsor students receive school meals during the week but are lacking food on the weekends. Each Friday a child from eligible families receives a backpack filled with nutritious foods to bring home for the weekend. We are hoping this program will keep those students healthy and nutritiously satisfied through the weekend and ready to focus and learn in school on Monday mornings.

This program has continued to grow since it began in 2013. This year we have already well surpassed our previous years count with 78 participants receiving backpacks weekly. The Windsor Hunger Action Team is fully committed to this program and the need that it fulfills for children in our community.

This program is solely funded through the donations of local businesses, civic organizations, religious institutions, concerned residents and grant awards.

Please consider making a donation to this very important program. Monetary donations, made payable to the Windsor Food and Fuel Bank – Weekend Wheels Backpack Program, are used for the purchase program inventory. We also welcome food collections and ask that collections focus on one type of item, i.e. boxed breakfast cereal, canned beef stew, or plastic bottles of jelly.
